We're inviting you to Show Up, albeit virtually, for each other and collective food action.
The 2021 Show Up Series is culminating into this year’s 2021 NC Food Council Network Gathering.
Please join us and our guests who will highlight this year’s state-level food policy wins and opportunities! We’ll hear insights on upcoming food policy opportunities and how local advocacy and organizing can lead to local and state-level change. We want to give appreciation for big and small accomplishments during this last year, and take a look at what we can collectively work towards in the future.
In addition to policy reflections, we’ll have spoken word poetry and raffles for local food products and prizes.
- Who or what inspired you this year and/or changed your understanding of food systems and/or food equity?
- What changes do we hope to see with our food councils and this network in the next year?
Guest Speaker Panel
We’ll hear from a couple of our state-level policy mentors and organizers to celebrate this year’s food policy wins and learn about how our local level work trickles up and matters at the state level.
-
Morgan Wittman Gramann from the NC Alliance for Health will speak about their recent win working with a cohort of food councils to advocate for a one-time state budget allocation to fund prepared food resources and training development.
- Savi Horne from the Land Loss Prevention Project will speak about House Bill 367: the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act, and the ongoing effort of a coalition of advocacy partners working to protect Black land ownership.
The NC Local Food Council and many other local food councils supported these efforts. What did we learn and what can we do in the future? We’ll get their reflection on what food, health, and agriculture-related policy opportunities are coming up!
