Resilience and Resistance
Ali, Nathalie, and Shy from our Community Food Strategies team recently attended Resilience and Resistance: Cross Pollinating Food Movements, a national food systems conference held June 22–24 at Portland State University.
With 27 dynamic workshops, powerful plenaries, and thoughtful action-planning sessions, the conference brought together food advocates from across the country to envision a more just and resilient post-COVID food system.
Highlights included reconnecting with NC Food Coalition members like Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, Working Landscapes, WNC Food Systems Coalition, and the Piedmont Triad Regional Food Council. The opening plenary—Developing Resilience and Strategizing Resistance—featured inspiring dialogue between Malik Yakini Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network) and Rosalinda Guillen (Community to Community Development).
Also a highlight? Escaping the East Coast heat wave.
We’re energized by what we learned and look forward to bringing new ideas and renewed momentum into our food systems work here in North Carolina
